Simchat Torah (Joy of the Torah) is one of the most cheerful and bright holidays in the life of a Jewish person.

A special celebration for this day was established in the era of the Babylonian gaons (early Middle Ages), about a thousand years ago, when the three-year cycle of Torah reading was replaced by a one year cycle.

This holiday is not specified in the Bible, but it does not contradict the spirit of the Scriptures because rituals and commandments of the holiday have been kept including a solemn procession with the Torah scrolls, followed by dancing, Torah reading in the synagogue (even by the boys), general exultation and joy from all of the people of Israel expressing the love of every Jew for his Creator and faith in His Word.

This joy is no wonder because the Lord has entrusted the Word of God to Israel, "... What advantage, then, is therein being a Jew ...? Much in every way! First of all, the Jews have been entrusted with the very words of God" Romans 3:1-2.

King David said, "I will praise You, Lord, with all my heart, ... and will praise Your name for Your unfailing love and Your faith fullness, for You have so exalted Your solemn decree that it surpasses Your name" Psalm 138:1-2.

"Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens" Psalm 119:89.

"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path" Psalm 119:105.

"I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoil" Psalm 119:162.

In the book of Nehemiah is written, "... the joy of the Lord is your strength" Nehemiah 8:10b.

Rabbi Joseph Isaac said, "By joyful dancing with torn soles for on Simchat Torah one can achieve more than by a prayer on Yom Kippur.” One of the prayers which is read on this day says, "Be glad and rejoice on Simchat Torah and surround Torah with honour. For the best gain for a man is the knowledge gained from its studying. It is more precious than gold and pearls of pure ... It is our life, it strengthens us and lights our way. I shall praise my God and I will rejoice when He reveals to me. All my hopes will be connected with Him."

One of the names of Yeshua is “The Word of God”. "I saw heaven opened and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice He judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on His head are many crowns. He has a name written on Him that no one knows but He Himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is The Word of God" Revelation 19:11-13.

This holiday is alive for every son and daughter of God. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind" John 1:1-4.

God embodied His Word in His Son, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth" John 1:14.

And He sent Him to earth for every man, firstly to the Jews and then to the gentiles, so everyone who "believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" John 3:16.
